writing, writing, writing

So all that writers block that I’ve been complaining of has suddenly vanished. I mean I don’t have as much to write about (blogging wise) but I’ve started writing and writing personally. And loving it.

Part of it has to do with the fact that I’ve just gotten a new, wonderful laptop. And sometimes the instrument that you use inspires you (I think that’s what is happening with me)

Also its NaNoWriMo (national novel writing month), and i signed up to do it… but didn’t start writing anything…that is until I got my new laptop along with a huge bout of inspiration. And the writing has been endless… (well endless might be a bit extreme, but I wrote a lot).

What have I started writing you may ask? A memoir in a way… I’ve decided I want to write a proper documentation of my travel… who knows what’ll happen… who knows where it’ll go… but as for right now… it’s going. And that’s a start.

Here’s an excerpt of a bit of what I’ve written so far:

My entire life I’ve always wondered, I’ve always been curious as to what lies out there. I’ve always wanted to learn more.

It took me years to get out there and discover what is in fact out there in the word, (and boy is there an infinite amount more to discover) but wow, this world is amazing. The more that I see, the more I want to learn, the more I want to do, the more I want to experience. There is simply not enough time to see and do all that this world has to offer, but you bet I’m going to try.

Now let me go back a bit, before this all began.. to the fear of beginning this journey. Before I had traveled to multiple continents, many countries and lived in different countries. Back to where it all began…

It all began with fear, with self-doubt, with uncertainty… as I got on that first plane to take me to Panama for 6 weeks I was overwhelmed, I felt like whatever was happening was not actually happening to me. I felt like I was standing on the outside looking in… how could this be me? How could this be my life right now? I felt absolutely petrified, I had no clue what was waiting for me one the other end. I had no clue what to expect once I left my safe bubble of home, of the United States of America.

Still to this day, each and every time I get on a plane (no matter where I am going) I still have that brief moment of pause… years later I am still shocked that this is in fact my life, but while there is still fear the thing that I feel the most is pride. I am proud of myself, proud of myself for leaving my comfort zone, proud of myself for making these adventures happen, proud of myself for taking that chance and turning my life into what it has become.

We’ll see if I keep up with it, if I write all my experiences, record all my stories… but the more I write, the more I get to re-live all these amazing experiences and I love it.

Stay tuned to see if I actually keep up with this project… .

(also question… does anyone have a recommendation for a good app or way to write, right now I just have pages open in Mac and I find myself slightly disorganized and disheveled and I don’t know if there’s some magic app or template or something I’m missing… so dear writers of the world if you have an recommendations please share !!)

  1. You inspire me so much!
I’ve been neglecting my blog recently, and been behind on posting about my travels (sometimes life gets in the way) but I love reading your posts and you inspire me to drop everything and keep writing.

I hope you keep it up and it keeps you happy! I love reliving my trips through writing too!

    1. wow, I’m so honored! It makes me so happy to hear that you find me an inspiration (especially because I have no clue what the hell i’m doing 90% of the time)… I find life getting in the way for me sometimes, but lately I’m trying to make the time… because when I sit down and write (whether on the blog or on paper or in a word document) I find myself relaxing… I find myself focusing on the writing, reliving the experiences, and the stress of the day fading away… so while it’s hard to find the time, if it makes you happy … it motivates you even more to do so..

keep up the good work… and thanks for checking out my blog

    1. I’ve been using Scrivener for a while and it has helped a lot. Honestly, even just being able to have a black background in full-screen mode (unlike the grey in Pages) is worth it. Hope it works for you too. 🙂

  2. You’re inspiring me! Maybe what I need is a new laptop and you as a neighbor. Maybe I’d start writing more! Thanks so much for following our blog, Oh, the Places We See. We look forward to reading more of what you’re about. Keep on keepin’ on.

  3. What I have recently realized is that just like a lot of other things in life, your inspiration and drive to write will visit you when its most needed. I suppose a lot of us writers go through periods of drought followed by torrential downpours of words. And that’s okay. After all, the flowers which grow after the rain are that much more striking because of the drought that came before them.
    Happy writing 🙂

  4. Glad you’ve got your writer’s block out of the way!
I honestly love reading your posts! Looks like you’re on to the start of some fantastic writing there too, and I can’t wait to read all about your adventures from beginning to end…well, not the end, but so far…

  5. I know just what you mean about getting a new laptop! It’s weird but for years I had PCs and I just couldn’t get anything coherent out. Then I went back to Mac and it all started coming out. Glad to know it’s just not just me who loves the tools 🙂

  6. I love writing and can easily lose myself in a writing project. It is a constant battle it seems to keep writing time and not let other demands interfere. Enjoyed your post. Womenlivinglifeafter50.com

  7. I like what you have written so far, well done! I can really feel the character’s…I don’t want to say conflict, but shock as you get a look into her mind. I can’t wait for what comes next! Keep on!

Also, to answer your question, an application called Nimble Writer is fantastic if you have the money to shell out for it. I typically just use Microsoft word, so I can’t give much advise, but give that one a shot.

  8. I totally get how you feel, new tools definitely do inspire you to write. I opt for the much more affordable version of a new notebook (the paper kind) or a new pen. A more economic consideration perhaps in case you get writer’s block again! Good luck with the memoirs 🙂

  9. The instrument you have definitely has an influence on how you write. I remember getting my first typewriter, and I wrote for weeks nonstop. 🙂 I also share snippets of my writing on my blog, so I would love it if you checked it out! Keep writing!!

  10. I believe you’ll find there is nothing called Writer’s Block. It’s in your mind. You may believe you have a style of writing. Most very good authors try to avoid that. Why? Every story has its own way of telling, its own characters, its own setting. Compare, a Peyton Place type of novel versus something written on a Polynesian island. Everything is different, including what you’re characters are thinking and do. If you’re still stuck on Payton Place, YOU’RE STUCK!

  11. I am not a writer, per se. I am poser-writer, if such title exists. Well, now it does. Lol. But, what are you looking for in an app that Pages falls short of? Google Chrome offers tools (apps) for writers — simple, mildly elegant, nonintrusive. You may like Hermit. I have used it and it was good. I started to record my dreams there but that never fully realized. Writing got in the way; creative writing, more specifically. WriteWell, another app I’ve just seen has a 5-star rating. Find out for yourself why this is. If ideas are scarce and you need a springboard from which to take off, try Writing Prompts. This is an IOS app (not sure whether it’s available for Android). I’ve just used it now and it gave me this prompt:

Write about 3 different people who find 3 different things in 3 different places on 3 different days.

As a writer, you should be able to run away with this. Did I say that right? 🙂

  12. The same thing happened with me. Got my new laptop and it was on. I don’t know exactly what the connection is but it felt great lol. Continue to write. Use Onenote. Its very helpful with keeping everything organized.

  14. Hahaha procrastination is my strongest asset (or curse). I can do days without writing, even with deadlines… But when I do get that second wind, I speed thru 4-5 write ups in one sitting. So, I definitely feel you! 😊👍

  15. Yeah, that’s some simple but great advice there – if you want to get rid of writers’ block, write. The more you write, the more you’ll have on paper. Then it’s just a matter of editing and rearranging. 🙂 Interesting excerpt. Not bad. I just use Word on my laptop. But on my phone, I use Jotterpad. It’s great.

  18. I have writers block sometimes..it helps setting a deadline, going for a walk and then getting back into it.
Go to places that stimulate imagination. That all sounds really cheesy but honestly a walk in the park can do wonders!!

Let’s wander together. Even if only in the virtual world 🙂
