Living abroad in a foreign country it can be difficult making friends, but these people you meet can turn out to be some of the best friends you’ve ever made in your life. The good thing about being in a foreign country is when you first arrive you know no one. In order to make friends you need to get yourself out there and go to meet people. This is something that at first was very very difficult for me, growing up I was soooo incredibly shy. But College pushed me to meet new people, it was a situation like this where the only way to meet people was to get out here. The difference between now and college is meeting people got a whole lot more difficult. But… it is possible.
The interesting thing is how do you really know a person? These people you meet you almost need to become close so quickly because they’re the only support system, companionship and friends you have in this new place. But how do you truly know that you can depend on them? The answer is you don’t. You just hope this is a person you can trust and slowly open up to them and see what happens.
It’s interesting, some of the people I’ve met here have turned out to be some great friends that I know will be in my life for a long time to come. And then there are others that I know I really have nothing much in common with and realistically it might not be the best friendship or relationship but for here and now it might be just exactly what I need. I wonder 5 years from now, 10 years from now, and so on… which of these people will I still be in touch with.
One thing I do know is that almost every single person that I have met so far on this journey has had some sort of impact or influence on me. And for that I am happy and grateful
Love this & so true!
