One of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever received was

It is something that I think is very difficult to accomplish in today’s society. We are so plugged in to everything all the time. The Internet and the world are at our fingertips, which is an amazing thing… but also sometimes it really gets in the way of truly living in the moment.

On the other hand, technology and being so plugged in helps you capture the moment and treasure that moment forever. Those beautiful places you get to see, the incredible moments you experience and the wonderful people you meet… you can save that forever.

While it’s difficult to live in the moment, especially when traveling ( because you have the desire to capture everything) I think it’s something so important to do. Capture the sights, the smells, the tastes of the places, the experiences. These are the things that will stay with you forever.

But also, we need to live in the moment in another sense. In this moment, not the future, not the past…. now.

If you’ve read some of my previous posts like: Live for now , the future freaks me out and  The changes that come… you know that I spend a lot of my time thinking (okay worrying might be a better word here ) about the future, and what comes next for me.

But sometimes I need to remind myself to live in the moment, live in this moment. I don’t know where I will be a few months from now, let alone a few years from now, but I’m pretty sure I won’t be in Barcelona. So what’s the point of worrying so much about what ifs, I have now .. . I have these moments here in Barcelona… I could live in the future and live in the what if’s or i could live in the moment.

So that’s what I’m choosing to do.

I choose to live in this moment.

    1. It’s hard because you want to capture everything, as well as share everything with your friends and family… but it’s hard to do that while still having the chance to actually enjoy what is happening in front of you… the key is finding the balance !

  1. Love this.

I agree with you that it’s hard to disconnect in such a connected society. There’s nothing like learning to live in the moment than when you travel. But, like you said, technology helps you remember the moment. Travel moments happen so fleetingly and once they’re gone, they’re nothing but memories or status updates on Facebook.

It’s a simple concept really, to live in the moment, but it’s harder to execute. It takes a lot of practice, and I still need to remind myself daily to refrain from worrying about the future or thinking about the past.

    Great post!

  2. I’m struggling really hard these days to live in the moment, and it could be why I’ve been feeling miserable constantly. My mind is on the future 90% of the time and I’ve tried so many ways to get it back to the present, but with little luck. I think I need to daydream more about what’s happening around me.

    1. sometimes, when the future stresses you out so much and you feel like thinking about it is a dead end, the best thing to do is take a step back, live in the moment and clear your mind. Then hopefully the answer you’ve been looking for will come your way

      good luck xx Sam

      1. I also feel that the whole concept of living and experiencing is creating lot of pressure… We want to do too much in too little time!!
So slow travel is thrown out 🙂
